Growing up in the 80’s was a beautiful thing. The music, the video games, and most of all the movies! There were a number of films that I loved and on occasion still watch to this day. The Goonies was always at the top of that list. I can’t even tell you how many times my sister and I used to watch that one growing up. Recently I had a long layover in Portland, Oregon and decided to rent a car and head west to visit some of the sights. Here are the Goonies film locations – a self guided tour.

Most of The Goonies was filmed in and around the beautiful town of Astoria, Oregon. Sitting on a peninsula surrounded by the Colombia River, it was founded in 1811 and is actually the oldest city in the state. There are a lot of things to see here, but the biggest tourism draw is of course the Goonies film locations. Most of them can be easy seen by simply plugging the address into your GPS.
The Goonies House

368 38th St. Astoria, Oregon 97103
The most popular film location from the movie is the Goonies house. After all, saving this place was the whole reason the kids wanted to go on a treasure hunt. Visitors are requested to park on the nearby streets and only access the driveway by foot. The house is super cool and even has some props set up in the yard that you will definitely recognize.
Data’s House

344 38th St. Astoria, Oregon 97103
Data’s house is located right next door to the Goonies house. There is also a zipline connecting the two which was perfect for 007 to make an unforgettable entrance. HAHA
Oregon Film Museum

732 Duane Street Astoria, Oregon 97103
The Oregon Film Museum was once a real county jail from 1914 to 1976. It was used in the opening scenes of the movie. This is where Jake Fratelli was held until his family helped him escape. Here you can see his actual jail cell and a replica of the Fratelli’s 1984 Jeep Cherokee which is usually parked out in front of the jailhouse. The jail is now home to the Oregon Film Museum which celebrates the history of film-making in the state of Oregon.
Flavel House Museum

714 Exchange St. Astoria, Oregon 97103
The Flavel House is located right across the street from the Oregon Film Museum. It’s one of the most beautiful buildings in all of Astoria and also where Mickey’s father worked as a museum curator. In one scene from the movie, the Goonies can be seen riding their bikes right in front of it.
Lower Colombia Bowl

826 Marine Dr. Astoria, Oregon 97103
This is where Chunk was watching the opening car chase scene through the window while holding his pizza and milk shake. Today the building is still an operating bowling alley.
Mouth’s House

32 Skyline Ave. Astoria, Oregon 97103
Mouth’s house was featured in the beginning scenes of the movie during the car chase. You may remember it from when Mouth was helping his dad fix a leak on the kitchen sink.
Astoria Coffee Co.

304 37th St. Astoria, Oregon 97103
The Astoria Coffee Co. was in a deleted scene which never made it on the film, but if you cross the street and look back, you will find the crosswalk where Rosalita is seen crossing the street as the Fratellis speed past with the cops in pursuit.
Ecola State Park

About an hour drive south of Astoria is Ecola State Park. This was my favorite film location from the movie. This is where the kids where riding there bikes through the forest and also the location of the Fratelli’s hideout. The drive through this park is absolutely beautiful with lots of green foliage surrounding the road.

This is the spot where the Fratelli’s hideout would have been. It was built specifically for the movie and then later removed. That old spooky tree on the right is the same tree that was in the film.
Cannon Beach

Just south of Ecola State Park is Cannon Beach. This is where the opening Fratelli car chase came to an end. What makes this beach unique is the presence of Haystack Rock.
I had such an amazing time visiting Astoria and the Goonies film locations. Being in these spots brought back so many childhood memories and it was so cool to see that so many of these locations looked exactly how they did in the movie. If you’re a Goonies fan, this adventure is definitely one that you don’t want to miss. “Goonies Never Say Die!”
